Here's the latest update from Wellington City Council on the work happening along The Parade this week: Shopping centre The section of the shopping centre between the two raised pedestrian crossings is now complete. And – all going well – we expect to have the remaining work in the 30km/h zone finished by the end of this week. We did plan to reseal the section just south of the shops between Medway Street and the end of the 30km/h zone on Saturday 14 November. The chip seal went down, but we have had to postpone the asphalting as the sub-contractor lined up has been unable to provide the required mix. Weather permitting, this sealing work will now happen on Friday 20 November. Work will also be continuing this week at the northern end of the shopping centre from the raised pedestrian crossing to just north of Avon Street. This will include rotomilling the road surface on Thursday, laying gravel (or chips), and asphalting on Saturday 21 November. Rotomilling involves grinding and removing the top layer of the road in preparation for the new seal. The contractors will do what they can to minimise disruption, but this is noisy, dusty work. Avon Street The first of the new cycle by-passes has been completed at the bus stop near Avon Street. We’re now doing some final road modifications adjacent to the kerb in this area ahead of the sealing work this weekend. Work is also progressing on the other side, outside the church. The new kerbline and bike path are in. The concrete pad for the new bus shelter will be poured this week. The new shelter is expected to be installed at the end of November. Tamar Street We’re installing a new pedestrian crossing here and altering the bus stop to include a cycle by pass. Some preliminary work has already been done and work is about to ramp up. Behind the construction fences, we’ll be excavating part of the road and footpath on the southern side of the intersection on both sides of the road. The new kerbs are expected to be laid next week. Mersey Street A new section of kerbline was put in outside the Mersey Street diary last week, part of improving the pedestrian crossing facilities in this location and creating a cycle by-pass. This week, you’ll see the boxing going in for the new bike path. Further along the street, outside the Empire Cinema, we’ll be putting in the new kerb adjacent to the bus stop and ramps for the new pedestrian crossing. The new concrete bike path will be boxed this week and poured next week. Thanks again to everybody in the community for your incredible patience while this work is going on and please continue to support the businesses who are affected.
